Dort’s basketball journey began in the Athlete Institute in Mono, Ontario, where he emerged as a five-star recruit. For college, he committed to playing basketball for Arizona State University, where he averaged 16.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game in 34 appearances. He was named to the Second-team All-Pac-12, and Pac-12 All-Defensive Team, and won the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year in 2019.

Following Arizona State University's loss in the 2019 NCAA men's tournament, Dort declared for the 2019 NBA Draft. However, after going undrafted, he signed a two-way contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Dort has since established himself as one of the better two-way players in the league. He is an important part of a young Thunder team that will be looking for a playoff push in 2024.

In the 2022/23 season for the Thunder, Dort played 74 games and averaged 13.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.1 and 1.0 steals assists per game.
