Paolo Banchero’s full name is Paolo Napoleon James Banchero. Born on 12 November 2002, he is an American-Italian basketball player for the Orlando Magic in the NBA. Paolo is a gifted athlete who showed his capabilities from an early age by playing basketball and American football. He has also actively participated in track in his early days.


After completing his freshman season Banchero got selected as the first overall pick by the Orlando Magic in the 2022 NBA draft.


He was one of the top players in the 2022 class and a 5 star recruit. He made his summer league debut on July 7, 2022 against the Houston Rockets scoring 17 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists in a 91-77 win. Before joining the Magic, he received offers from top NCAA division one programs including Duke and Kentucky. Most recruiting analysts predicted that he would commit to Washington as both his parents attended the University of Washington. On 20 August 2020, Banchero decided to play basketball for Duke. In 2022 he was named the ACC rookie of the year.


Banchero grew up playing basketball at Rotary Boys Club of Seattle. In the year 2000 Banchero’s mother was the third-round selection in the WNBA draft and played basketball professionally. He was ranked amongst the top 50 in the 8th graders nationally playing both basketball and football.
