Jonathan Allen is an American football defensive tackle for the Washington Commanders as of the 2024 NFL season. The Commanders selected him as the 17th pick in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Allen started all five games he appeared in his rookie year. Becoming a starter in his second year in the league, Allen combined for 61 total and 35 solo tackles in 2018. He put up his career-high numbers, recording 68 total and 46 solo tackles in the 2019 season, as of November 2024. Allen has started every game he has appeared in his NFL career. Allen was also invited to the Pro Bowl in 2021 and 2022.
Growing up in Virginia, Allen attended Stone Bridge High School. He concluded his high school career with 308 tackles and 44 sacks. Being rated as a five-star prospect by 247Sports and Rivals, Allen committed to the University of Alabama in 2013. In his freshman year, he appeared in 13 games. Allen appeared in 30 games over the final two seasons in college, recording 105 total tackles. He was presented with the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Chuck Bednarik Award and Ted Hendricks Award as a senior in 2016.
