“Our Super Bowl champions are dead” - NFL analyst writes off Rams in 2022

Arizona Cardinals v Los Angeles Rams
The Los Angeles Rams may be the reigning Super Bowl champions but, their chances this season are dropping significantly.

The Los Angeles Rams won the Super Bowl last season and entered the 2022 NFL season as favorites. Although there were a few missing key pieces from last season, the Rams seemed poised to repeat, or at least compete for the Lombardi Trophy.

The team is currently 3-6 and have lost their last three games. This past weekend, quarterback Matthew Stafford was out with a concussion and wide receiver Cooper Kupp suffered an ankle injury that took him out of the game for longer.

Columnist Andrew Brandt was on "The Rich Eisen Show" this week and said that he believes there is no coming back for the defending Super Bowl champs. He said:

"It's just weird I think that story no one's really talking about which. I mean, our Super Bowl champions are dead. Yes, that's that should be the headline of all. But it's like way down the list. I mean, I understand Stafford's hurt, but I don't see a path."

He then added:

"They reupped Stafford, they reupp Donald, they reup Kupp big money deals push out more and more cap have less and less picks. I just I never agreed with it. And I know I was shouted down because they want a Super Bowl, but it's a tough way to have sustained success. And now we're seeing it." -Andrew Brandt on the Rich Eisen Show

The Rams lost wide receiver Odell Beckham during the Super Bowl LVI victory with a torn ACL and he is still a free agent. Linebacker Von Miller also left during free agency along with two key members of the Super Bowl victory.

How long will Los Angeles Rams WR Cooper Kupp be out?

Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp suffered a high ankle sprain in Sunday's 27-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday afternoon. He was taken out of the game and didn't return with his status moving forward up in the air.

On Tuesday morning, it was announced that Kupp will undergo surgery to repair his ankle and that he will go on the Injured Reserve (IR) list as a result.

That injury designation indicates that he will be out at least four weeks, but if the Rams aren't in contention within the next month, it could mean he will be out for the remainder of the season.

This is just another dent in the season for the team as it appears their quest for a second consecutive Super Bowl run is over.
