Tyquan Thornton is an American wide receiver for the New England Patriots in the NFL. The Patriots drafted Thornton as the 50th pick in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He attended Booker T. Washington Senior High School, where he began his football journey. During his tenure at high school, Thornton recorded more than 1,100 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns and added 214 rushing yards with three scores. As a senior in high school, he also played quarterback and recorded three touchdown passes. Due to his amazing performance, he was a two-time All-Dade honoree. Thornton began his collegiate career with the University of Baylor in 2018.
As a freshman in 2018, Thornton appeared in all 13 games and recorded 20 receptions for 354 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 2 rush attempts for 2 yards. Thornton appeared in all 14 games in 2019, starting 11 of those, and recorded 45 receptions for 782 yards and five touchdowns. He recorded 3 receptions for 50 yards, including a 39-yard touchdown reception in a game against Kansas State as well and earned All-Big 12 honors. He started all six games he played in and recorded 16 receptions for 158 yards and a touchdown in 2020 as a junior. Thornton’s senior year in 2021 was his breakthrough year, where he started all 14 games and recorded 62 receptions and 10 touchdowns. He was named preseason Third Team All-Big 12 selection by Phil Steele and NFLPA Collegiate Bowl Big Board selection the same year.
