His basketball journey started at Forestview High School and he moved to Gaston Day School in his freshman year of his prep career. He moved to Northside Christian Academy in his sophomore year before returning to Gaston Day School for his junior and senior years.
After ending his high school career, Hinton attended University of Houston, where the Memphis Hustle star played college basketball for two years before deciding to forego his remaining college eligibility. Hinton went undrafted in the 2020 NBA draft but was signed by the Dallas Mavericks on a two-way contract.
