
Russell Westbrook is an American point guard who plays for the Denver Nuggets in the National Basketball Association (NBA), as of May 2025. He was selected as the fourth overall pick by the Seattle SuperSonics/Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round of the 2008 NBA draft. He played with the Thunder for 11 years before joining the Houston Rockets in 2019. After stints with Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers, and Los Angeles Clippers, he joined the Nuggets in 2024.
Before his NBA career, Westbrook played for the UCLA Bruins between 2006 and 2008. He was named to the All-Pac-10 Third Team and Pac-10 All-Defensive Team in 2008. Westbrook was also named the Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year in 2008. He has also played for the United States in the past. Westbrook participated at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey, securing gold medals in both events.
