Finding breakout players in fantasy football can be one of the biggest keys to building a championship team. Targeting the right players to do so can dictate draft strategies and potentially load a roster with the most upside. Managers should carefully analyze all of their options before coming up with certain players who may be a bit undervalued entering a new NFL season.

Running backs have always been among the most important fantasy football assetts and teams who find the best ones at the right price often find their way to success. With the 2024 season quickly approaching, here are three of them who could be primed for a major breakout above their perceived fantasy value.

#1 - Ezekiel Elliot

Ezekiel Elliot used to be among the most consistently dominant fantasy football running backs during his prime with the Dallas Cowboys. He finished among the top 12 players in his position in his first six consecutive seasons. While he finished 33rd last year with the New England Patriots, a return to the Cowboys could help him to break back out.

The Patriots were one of the lowest-scoring offenses in the NFL, while the Cowboys have conistently been one of the highest-scoring units in recent years. With Tony Pollard now gone, Elliot is expected to once again be their featured running back. He has little competiton for backfield touches, so he could be in line for a huge workload in a favorable situation.

#2 - De'Von Achane

Despite appearing in just 11 games during his rookie season last year, De'Von Achane still managed to finish as the RB21 in total fantasy points scored. Even more impressively, he finished as the RB5 fantasy points per game, despite splitting the backfield touches as the Miami Dolphins' second running back behind Raheem Mostert.

If Achane can stay healthy during the upcoming 2024 NFL season, he legitimately holds the upside to potentially finish as RB1. He plays in one of the highest-scoring offenses in the league, should see an increase in his usage this year, and could be an even better player if he further developed his overall game entering Year 2.

#3 - Kyren Williams

Kyren Williams quietly put together one of the best overall fantasy seasons of any running back last year. He finished with the fourth-most fantasy points of any player in his position, despite appearing in only 12 games. He also finished as the RB2 in fantasy points per game, trailing only Christian McCaffrey.

His elite combination of explosive rushing plays and valuable receiving contributions gives him some of the highest upside of any player this year, regardless of their position. When it's all said and done, Williams could realistically finish 2024 fantasy football season as RB1, playing in a featured role for the Los Angeles Rams' high-powered offense.
