Sam Hartman had a very good relationship with his adopted older brother Demitri Allison. He considered him an idol and both of them were inseparable. Unfortunately, all that ended when Demitri Allison committed suicide in 2015 by falling from a residence hall at Elon University. His death was associated with his emotional state and well-being.

Joe Hartman is another older brother of Sam Hartman who is also involved in football. To pay tribute to their deceased brother Demitri Allison, both Sam and Joe Hartman played a football game. There, while Joe Hartman played the defense and as a receiver, Sam Hartman completed 12 passes out of 18 and also made 2 touchdowns.
