Arik Armstead Parents

Arik Armstead is a defensive tackle who plays for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL as of 2024. As a defensive tackle, Armstead’s job is to rush the passer, get after the signal caller to try to sack him, and stop the running play from developing for big gains. Armstead, who is a huge 6 foot 7 inch, 290-pound lineman has been one of the top defensive players for the 49ers in the past several seasons. Christa Armstead and Guss Armstead are the parents of Arik Armstead who was born on November 15, 1993, in Sacramento, California. Armstead’s mother, Christa Armstead was a very involved parent right from her son’s young days. Being a student in a school with mostly white kids, Armstead would have fallen prey to racial injustice had it not been for his mother and her adamancy to prevent her son from being labeled as a disabled learner. Armstead’s mother’s efforts allowed him to grow up with the normal education offered to his peers.

Christa describes in her memoir ("Illegitimate: Memoir of a Priest's Daughter") the struggles of an African-American. While growing up in a society that was unfair toward her due to racial discrimination, Christa didn’t want that to hamper her son’s progress in life which is why she stood behind her son completely.

Christa recalled how, even at the age of five, Arik would leap out of bed to follow his father to the gym early in the morning. "Watching as a parent — you're nervous" in an interview with ABC10 she shared, adding that she often prays for all the players’ safety during games. Guss talked about Arik's resilience, noting how he’s consistently bounced back from injuries since high school. He also spoke proudly of Arik's off-the-field contributions, saying, "You're blessed to bless others, and I think he's blessing others with the projects that he has in the community." As parents, they take pride in the positive role model Arik has become for kids, especially in their hometown of Sacramento.

Armstead’s father, Guss Armstead had more of an athletic influence on his son. Being a well-respected basketball trainer in the country, Amrstead’s father helped his son fine-tune his training and athletic ability.

The Sacramento native’s father holds his own summer league, helps basketball players of all positions and just goes about helping others in need whenever he can. In this way, he creates a strong bond between himself and his students both on and off the court.
