Derwin Alonzo James Jr. is an American football safety for the Los Angeles Chargers, as of the 2024 season in the NFL. The Los Angeles Chargers selected James Jr. as the 17th pick in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. James Jr. has played exclusively with the Chargers since he was selected by the team. The three-time Pro Bowler has also earned several other accolades includes being named to the First-team All-Pro twice in 2018, and 2021. He also earned Second-team All-Pro honors in 2022.

At the collegiate level, James Jr. played football for the Florida State Seminoles. He was named to the All-ACC Third Team, received All-American Honorable Mention, and earned Freshman All-American honors in 2015. In 2017, he was also named a First-team All-American, according to the official website of Florida State. During his formative years, he initially attended Auburndale High School, before transferring to Haines City High School in his hometown. Upon graduation, he received a five-star recruit rating and committed to playing collegiate football at Florida State University.
