Born on August 30, 2002, Maye is a top candidate for the 2024 NFL Draft, He secured the ACC Player of the Year in 2022 and racked up over 8,000 passing yards in college. The University of North Carolina alumnus has already made a significant impact, gaining attention during his sophomore year and raising expectations for the upcoming NFL Draft. During his time at Myers Park High School, Drake was an essential member of the football team and was honored with the title of MaxPreps North Carolina Player of the Year. His exceptional skills and performances earned him a four-star prospect rating, leading to his initial commitment to play for Alabama before ultimately choosing North Carolina.

In 2021, Maye began as the third-string quarterback for the Tar Heels, limiting his playing opportunities. However, in 2022, he took over as the starting quarterback after the previous starter departed for the NFL. Maye's 2022 season proved to be remarkable, achieving a 9-5 record for the Tar Heels. He exhibited his prowess by setting a new single-season passing record for North Carolina with 4,321 yards, surpassing the previous mark held by Mitch Trubisky. Additionally, his 39 passing touchdowns ranked him 7th on the school's all-time list. He also showcased improved running skills, contributing 698 rushing yards and finishing second on the team with 7 rushing touchdowns.

Drake Maye’s parents, Mark and Aimee Maye, have a strong connection to the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where they both studied and were deeply involved in athletics. Mark, a former UNC quarterback, played for the Tar Heels from 1983 to 1988, where he set several school records and captained the team in 1987. Despite injuries that cut his professional career short, he later earned his M.B.A. and served as a graduate assistant at UNC. Drake Maye was also born in Huntersville, North Carolina and completed his education in the same state. He went to Myers Park high School in the city of Charlotte, North Carolina and then completed his higher education from the University of North Carolina.

Aimee Maye, on the other hand, was a standout basketball player in high school, earning the Mecklenburg County girls' player of the year award at West Charlotte High School. Although she chose not to play at UNC, she worked in the football recruiting office while Mark was an assistant coach, where they first met as per people.

Mark and Aimee have four sons: Luke, Cole, Beau, and Drake. They’ve been deeply involved in their children’s sports careers, with Mark coaching them in various sports and Aimee managing the family's meals and activities. Mark reflects on his role, saying, "I was fortunate to be involved with coaching a lot of the teams. It was a great experience." Aimee adds humorously about her culinary feats, “I know for a fact every single time I made that meal, at the end of the meal, there was not a morsel of food left.”

He had a brief stint with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as per sources, but his career as an NFL player came to an end quickly. Following his NFL career, Mark transitioned to coaching and has been actively involved as a defensive backs coach in several high schools around Charlotte, North Carolina. He is passionate about nurturing young talents and helping them excel in sports.
