Laremy Tunsil, the Houston Texans' offensive tackle, was originally drafted by the Miami Dolphins with the 13th overall pick in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team and went on to play three seasons with the Dolphins. The Houston Texans, however, acquired him in August 2019 in return for Julien Davenport, Johnson Bademosi, two first-round picks, and a second-round pick. As of January 2025, he has played in 125 games, according to Pro Football Reference and has been named for five Pro Bowls in 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

The Lake City, Florida native, Tunsil, was born in Harvey, Louisiana, on August 2, 1994. He went to Columbia High School and played football along with shot put. As a five-star recruit, graduating in 2013, he joined the Ole Miss Rebels and was named three times for All-SEC honors. In 2015, he missed the first seven games of the season and received an NCAA suspension when his stepfather, Lindsay Miller, accused him of receiving improper perks from sports agents. He was reinstated after an NCAA investigation and suspension period, as per the Bleacher Report.

Who is Laremy Tunsil’s mother?

Laremy Tunsil’s mother is Desiree Polingo, according to CBS Sports.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Desiree worked a couple of jobs as a nurse to support her two sons, Laremy and Alex. In Lake City, Florida, she would work as a jail nurse at night and at a nursing home during the day. Every day at seven in the morning, she would return home from work, get her sons up, prepare breakfast, and then take them to school. She would then return home, sleep, pick them up from school, and repeat the process.

Tunsil stated in an interview with the Houston Chronicle, “We didn’t miss a meal. She put food on the table. She worked her ass off daily.” Tunsil mostly gives his mother credit for what he has accomplished as an NFL player with a career. He saw her work hard, which allowed him and his younger brother to do well.

Tunsil, as a kid, along with his mother, Desiree, once met Warrick Dunn, the former NFL running back and a three-time Pro Bowler. Dunn used to give back to single mothers, and he advised Tunsil to do the same when he became successful. Tunsil said, “I told (my mom) as a kid, 'When I get older, I promise I’m going to do it.' To me, it means a lot to see a smile on her face and the other single moms.”

Thanksgiving and Christmas are frequent occasions when Tunsil welcomes single mothers and their families. In 2022, he took several underprivileged families shopping for Christmas, and he intends to keep doing so. In one of his off-season events, Tunsil hosts a free dinner for about a dozen single mothers in Houston through Divine Tree, the creative management firm he co-founded. (via the Houston Chronicle)
