His professional career in the NFL as a coach started when he was hired by the Kansas City Chiefs in 1993 as their offensive quality control coach. As time went by McCarthy continued to enhance his coaching skills and in 1999, he joined the Green Bay Packers as their quarterback's coach. His run with the Packers only lasted one season and in 2000, he was hired as the New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator. He stayed with the Saints for five seasons through 2004. In 2005, he was signed by the San Francisco 49ers as their offensive coordinator. After his initial run with the Packers in 1999, he was again hired by them but this time their head coach in 2006. He led the Green Bay Packers to the Super Bowl in 2011, where the Packers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers to win the Super Bowl XLV. After being with the Packers for more than a decade McCarthy decided to move on and in 2020, he was hired by the Dallas Cowboys as their head coach.
