Better known for influencing the overall momentum of the game, punters play a particularly crucial role in kicking the ball as far as possible, ideally limiting the opposing team deep into their own territory. Undoubtedly, punters contribute significantly to the team’s overall success, even though they are not as prominent as offensive or defensive players. Mitch Wishnowsky is an Australian professional American football player currently serving the San Francisco 49ers as a punter in the National Football League.

Wishnowsky began his NFL journey with the 49ers after being selected as the 110th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Since then, he has remained with the same team. In 2022, he signed a four-year contract extension with the team, valued at $11,200,000 with the 49ers. His current contract includes a signing bonus of $2,750,000, a guaranteed amount of $3,715,000, and an average annual salary of $2,800,000. Throughout his five-season stint with the 49ers, he penned his name in the franchise record books, ranking second in franchise history in yards per punt average (min. 100 punts) with a 45.2 average.

Before joining the 49ers, Wishnowsky had a decorated collegiate career at the University of Utah, playing college football for the Utah Utes. During his tenure from 2016 to 2018, he earned a spot on the first-team All-PAC-12 three times consecutively. Furthermore, with a punting average of 47.7, his exceptional performance led to him receiving the Ray Guy Award and being honored as Unanimous All-American in 2016.
