Stevenson was born in Las Vegas, Nevada on 23 February 1998, to Robert and Juran Stevenson. He attended and began his football journey at Centennial High School, where he received the 2015 Las Vegas Sun High School Player of the Year as a junior.

Following his outstanding high school career, Stevenson spent two seasons playing college football at Cerritos College before joining the University of Oklahoma. During the 2019 season at Oklahoma, he played in the first 13 games before his suspension for the 2019 Peach Bowl due to a failed marijuana test. During that season, he recorded 515 yards on 64 carries with six touchdowns. After the suspension, Stevenson resumed playing in the 2020 season. He made a comeback, concluding his college career at Oklahoma as the MVP of the 2020 Cotton Bowl.
