Former American football quarterback Steve Young spent 15 seasons on the pitch for the National Football League (NFL). He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on October 11, 1961.

Young played college football at Brigham Young University, where he was recognised as the best college quarterback in the country and was named a unanimous All-American. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the NFL later selected him in the second round in 1984, but he struggled in his two seasons with the team.

Young was moved to the San Francisco 49ers in 1987, where he took over as the team's starting quarterback. In 1988, 1989, and 1994, he guided the 49ers to three Super Bowl victories, and in that game, he was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP).

Young earned multiple NFL records during his career and was known for his quickness and accuracy as a passer. In 2005, he was admitted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Young has worked as a venture investor and a sports analyst for ESPN since his retirement from football. He co-founded the private equity company HGGC amongst other business ventures. He is renowned for his charitable work as well, especially through the Forever Young Foundation, which he and his wife established in 1993.
