Victor Wembanyama accuses FIBA of fake interview

As the 2023 NBA draft gets closer, Victor Wembanyama is becoming more of a household name. The 7-foot-3 French prospect has amazed fans all year with his highlights and is expected to be the No. 1 pick this year.

Seeing that Victor Wembanyama is one of the most talked about prospects since LeBron James, everyone is trying to get an opportunity to speak with him. That being said, some are going to extreme lengths to benefit from his exposure.

FIBA recently released an interview with the international sensation. The only problem is that it wasn't real, Wembanyama claimed. Not long after it went live, Wembanyama took to Instagram to tell the world that he never spoke with them.

Victor Wembanyama sits down for real interview

While some might be faking to have spoken with the 7-foot-3 phenom, Victor Wembanyama did sit down with Sports Illustrated to discuss a wide array of topics.

As expected, among the main things talked about was the anticipation of his NBA debut. There has never been a player with his size and skills, which is why he's already in the realm of LA Lakers star LeBron James. Some have even debated that he is a more fascinating prospect than the Ohio high school star was when he was the No. 1 pick in 2003.

During his time with SI, Victor Wembanyama talked about adapting his game at his size. He said it's hard for him to have role models, but he's doing everything he can to shatter any and all expectations.

“I can’t really take role models,” explained Wembanyama. “Because when you’re 6'2" [versus] 7'3", it’s not the same sport. So, the way I want to play, I got to innovate and just create new things.
“I gotta diversify my skills even more so people don’t get bored. I want to exceed the expectations.”

Never before has a player of his size been able to dominate on the perimeter like him. Along with having range on offense, Wembanyama is an imposing force on defense with his long arms. His first game in the NBA is sure to be one of the most anticipated debuts in history.

With such a fascinating player coming down the pipeline, all eyes are on the bottom of the standings in this final stretch of the regular season. While some teams are looking to make a run at a title, others are attempting to get the best chance at drafting Wembanyama this summer.
