Is Austin Reaves playing tonight against Denver Nuggets?

Austin Reaves and the Los Angeles Lakers will tip off the new season in their NBA Opening Night matchup against the Denver Nuggets. The ball game is scheduled for 7:30 PM Eastern Time with the Nuggets also set to receive their championship rings.

Interestingly, this game acts as a form of rematch between these two teams who were matched against one another in the third round of the playoffs last season. As both teams are looking to start their season off on a great note, the head-to-head duel of LeBron James and Anthony Davis against Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray is enough to excite NBA fans.

With that said, is Austin Reaves playing tonight against the Denver Nuggets? Reaves is in fact scheduled to play tonight in Denver with no reports of any injuries.

The Lakers guard is included in the team's starting lineup at the shooting guard position. During the 2022-23 season, Reaves increased his production on the court from the season prior by averaging 13.0 points (52.9% shooting, including 39.8% from 3-point range) and 3.1 rebounds per game.

His postseason numbers are all the more impressive, especially considering that it was his first time in the playoffs. In the three playoff rounds that he played in, Austin Reaves put up 16.9 points (46.4% shooting, including 44.3% from 3-point range), 4.6 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game.

Austin Reaves talks about his mindset for the 2023-24 season with the Los Angeles Lakers

Back in September, the Lakers' Austin Reaves talked with ESPN's Zach Lowe on his "Lowe Post Podcast" about his mentality heading into the regular season.

"First of all, I just want to win a championship," Reaves said. "For me, that's number one and that'll always be number one. But personally, I don't ever like setting goals just because you can not achieve your goals, but also do what's necessary for the team."

Despite coming up short in reaching the NBA Finals, Reaves still had a great sophomore season with the team. Back in July, the Lakers guard signed a four-year $56 million max contract, as per The Athletic's Shams Charania and Jovan Buha.

With the huge contract, it's safe to say the team expects a lot from Reaves this season.
