Greg Newsome II is an American football cornerback for the Cleveland Browns in the NFL. The Browns selected Newsome as the 26th pick in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Due to some injuries his rookie season, he was able to start in 11 games out of the 16 games played, recorded 37 tackles and was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team. Newsome registered his first NFL sack and boosted his total tackes of 42 in the 2022 NFL season.
However, Newsome's breakthrough came in the 2023 season. He established himself as the starter and had his best season, recording 49 tackles, sacking an opponent for the second time, and intercepting an NFL pass for the first time. In April 2024, the Browns decided to pick up the fifth-year option on his contract. Before joining the NFL, Newsome played collegiate football at Northwestern University. He started his collegiate career in 2018 and quickly became a key player for the team. By his junior year in 2020, Newsome earned First-team All Big-ten and Second-team All-American honors.
