Michael Carter II is an American football cornerback for the New York Jets in the NFL. The New York Jets selected Carter II as the 154th pick in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, a selection they obtained in the Leonard Williams trade to the New York Giants. Carter II started seven games, while recording a sack and 72 tackles during his rookie season. In the 2022 NFL season, he played in all 17 games and concluded the season with 62 tackles and two interceptions. However, Carter II played in 15 games in 2023, starting seven of them, and finished with 50 tackles and one forced fumble. In September 2024, Carter II extended his contract with the New York Jets for three years.


Carter II committed to Duke University for collegiate football. In 2017, Carter II received playing in 12 games, while having two starts. However, Carter II enjoyed a more favorable season in 2018 with 11 starts and he was named to the Academic All-ACC selection. In 2019, Carter II received the K.D. Kennedy Iron Devil Award and the Willis Aldridge Award, while hauling 53 tackles. During the 2020 season, Carter II was a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy and was named to the third-team All-ACC, Academic All-ACC and CoSIDA Academic All-District. Before committing to Duke, Carter II attended South Paulding High School for high school.
