After falling down the pecking order in Carolina, Baker Mayfield requested that the franchise release him. The Panthers did release the former first-overall pick, and now Mayfield is on the waivers list.

Following Mayfield's release by the Panthers, an old tweet from Skip Bayless emerged. In that tweet from 2020, Bayless said that he would take Baker Mayfield over Josh Allen. He claimed that Mayfield had more "winning intangibles" than Allen, which is why he would still take Mayfield.

NFL fans on social media didn't hold back and trolled Skip Bayless for his take:

Josh Allen and Baker Mayfield were of the same draft class. Looking back now, the Cleveland Browns would certainly have drafted Allen with the first-overall pick.

The Cleveland Browns brought in Deshaun Watson to replace Mayfield this offseason, as they didn't think they could win with Mayfield as their quarterback. Moreover, there were rumors that he had lost the locker room in Cleveland. The situation then got even worse after Odell Beckham Jr. was released by the franchise.

In the five seasons spent in the NFL, Mayfield has played 67 games. He has thrown for 15,438 yards and 98 touchdowns, along with 62 interceptions. Josh Allen, on the other hand, has played 73 games in the same stretch. He has thrown for 17,520 yards and 128 touchdowns, along with 57 interceptions.

Allen is in the Tier-1 category of NFL quarterbacks, while Mayfield has been released by the Panthers. This take by Skip Bayless has not aged well and doesn't look good with hindsight.

There are multiple teams rumored to be interested in Mayfield. He is on the waiver list, and teams in tough situations could look to get him. The 49ers are the best fit for him, but they are currently the 24th-ranked team on the waivers list, and it is likely that some other team will pick him up before them.

Mayfield will be a free agent after this season. If he doesn't perform in the remaining games, it will be very hard to see him getting the amount of money that he desires in free agency. It will be interesting to see where he ends up.
