In the fall of 2022, the XFL released team colors and emblems, and there were a lot of well-known options.

The St. Louis Battlehawks, Houston Roughnecks and D.C. Defenders were a handful of clubs that were precisely the same as those that participated in the league's first revival in 2020. The Seattle Dragons became the Sea Dragons. The Vipers, Guardians and Renegades relocated to Vegas, Orlando and Arlington, respectively. A few other teams underwent minor modifications.

The San Antonio Brahmas are another group. The XFL opted to completely restructure them as they became the new squad drawn into the legue to take the place of the Los Angeles Wildcats.

Dwayne Johnson was known as the "Brahma Bull" in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Although he had many labels, that one was partly inspired by the bull tattoo on his arm. It's not entirely understandable if the nickname originated before or after he sported the tattoo, which he acquired sometime between the late 1990s or early 2000s.

Bos indicus cattle, first imported from India, gave rise to the Brahman cow. Wikipedia claims that this hybrid breed of cattle was given the name Brahman, albeit its sources are sketchy.

With Vishnu, the preserver, and Shiva, the destroyer, Brahma is another Hindu deity considered the originator in the trinity of supreme divinity. It's unknown whether that affected the naming choice of the San Antonio Brahmas, though.

In their first official tweet, the local club said that the "Brahmas from San Antonio are unmatched in strength and size. They derive their limitless might and sharp horns from the broad plains of San Antonio. They always have victory in sight."

Brahman cattle frequently live a lot longer than other species, and they can still bear calves when they have lived up to 15 years. The Brahman is common in tropical areas and has a good heat tolerance.

Who is San Antonio Brahmas’ coach?

Hines Ward, a former All-Pro wideout in the NFL, will serve as the San Antonio Brahmas coach for their inaugural XFL season. Most people are familiar with Ward from his 13-year stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL.

The wideout for the Steelers was voted the Super Bowl 40 Most Valuable Player and won two championship games. He caught 1,000 passes on 1,558 targets for 12,083 yards and 85 TDs throughout his NFL career. His most successful performing years were from 2001 to 2004. He caught 381 passes out of 479 attempts for 4,499 yards and 30 TDs throughout those four years. Now, he will look to make history with the San Antonio Brahmas.
