AEW Dynamite is a wrestling television program which is produced by All Elite Wrestling (AEW). AEW Dynamite is also known as Wednesday Night Dynamite or simply Dynamite. AEW Dynamite is broadcast on TNT in the United States. AEW Dynamite was created by Tony Khan and is presented by Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, and Excalibur. The show has a running time of 120 minutes.
Satnam Singh dominated with hard chops and a vertical suplex. Despite some improvised moments and Singh's powerful moves, Danielson retaliated with a series of round kicks, a running knee, and a Busaiku Knee in the wake of going low. The match finished in confusion when Singh's crew interfered similarly as Danielson had him in a Lebell Lock.
Singles Match: Konosuke Takeshita vs. Matt Sydal
Takeshita began strong with a top wrist lock and almost snapped Sydal's neck with a sheerdrop brainbuster. Sydal figured out how to get away from a Blue Thunder Bomb with head scissors and hit a low dropkick. However, Takeshita countered Sydal's top rope move with a knee to the face, trailed by a Blue Thunder Bomb and a fierce right elbow that took Sydal out.
Singles Match: Malakai Black vs. Kyle O’Reilly
The two men began in a kickboxing position, trading kicks, punches, and clinches. Black hit a brutal knee to Kyle's face, sending him to the floor, and circled back to roundhouse kicks. Back in the ring, Kyle attempted for an armbar, yet Black got away and hit a sheerdrop brainbuster, trailed by a Black Mass for the win.
Tag Team Match: Trent & Roderick Strong vs. Will Ospreay & Orange Cassidy
Cassidy and Trent began fighting on the floor while Ospreay and Strong fought in the ring. Despite some obstruction from Matt Taven, Strong and Trent managed how to acquire control with a few powerful maneuvers. However, after a series of back-and-forth attacks and near-falls, Wardlow showed up and took out Ospreay, permitting Strong to hit his finishing move and on Cassidy for the win.
Tag Team Match: Toni Storm & Mariah May vs. Saraya & Harley Cameron
May hit Cameron with a shotgun dropkick followed by a spinning sidewalk slam. Saraya tagged in and went head-to-head with Storm. After a series of back-and-forth moves and impedance from Cameron, May struggled but eventually tagged Storm. She hit a backstabber and a Sky High on Cameron, however, Saraya and Cameron managed double sunset flip powerbombs. Despite the near falls, Storm and May got the win with a mix of Storm Zero and MayDay.
FTW Championship Eliminator Triple Threat Match: Katsuyori Shibata vs. Hook vs. Bryan Keith
Chris Jericho joins as the commentator as Keith sends HOOK into Shibata, however, HOOK counters with a judo throw and secures in RedRum. Shibata chokes HOOK, prompting a series of Exploders from every one of the three, leaving them down. Keith hits a running headbutt and a Tiger Bomb on HOOK, however, Shibata breaks the pin and hits running boots and a stalling dropkick. HOOK plants Shibata with a t-bone suplex and attempts RedRum once more, but Keith headbutts him. Shibata hits a running PK and secures Keith in a figure-four with a heel hook, but HOOK locks in RedRum. Keith taps, and the ref confusingly rings the bell.
AEW World Championship Eliminator Match: Swerve Strickland (c) vs. Nick Wayne
Swerve aggressively attacks Wayne early, whipping him with a belt and throwing him around the ringside. Wayne counters by sending Swerve's face into an uncovered turnbuckle and hitting a spinning DDT off a moonsault. Regardless of Wayne's attempts to fight back with eye pokes and a superkick, Strickland recovers control with a back suplex on the cover and a Swerve Stomp to the floor. Inside the ring, Wayne's Rolling Thunder Code Red gets a two count, however, Strickland gets him with a backbreaker and wraps up with a Housecall.
AEW Dynamite went head-to-head on Wednesday Nights with WWE NXT from 2019 to 2021. This was popularly known as The Wednesday Night Wars. This was the first competition between huge wrestling promotions after 2010 when TNA Impact and WWE RAW both aired on Monday Night Nights. Also, this might be the first time since Monday Night Wars that WWE has been on the losing end. The war lasted from October 2, 2019, the first episode of AEW Dynamite, to April 7, 2021, the last episode before NXT moved to Tuesday Nights.
Following a tight beginning against NXT in the early days, it was Dynamite that won the ratings war. Since the end of the ratings war, both shows have been able to draw huge numbers without direct competition. Since that night, the two shows have rarely collided. Most recently, AEW Dynamite took place on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, bringing it right in front of WWE NXT. This night marked the AEW debut of former WWE Superstar Edge and thus the promotion was expected to do better than WWE here. However, WWE brought names like Paul Heyman, Cody Rhodes, John Cena and surprisingly The Undertaker to NXT. NXT drew 921,000 viewers for the show in comparison to AEW's 609,000 fans.
History
After the launch of AEW in 2019 and the inaugural Double or Nothing PPV on May 25, 2019, AEW started its weekly programming on October 2nd. The all-new wrestling programming was named Dynamite and is known as the flagship programming for All Elite Wrestling. It debuted on WarnerMedia's TNT, marking the first time in almost two decades that a wrestling show was being broadcast on the channel. The last time such a show aired on TNT was before WCW went into closure. Airing on Wednesdays, Dynamite went head-to-head with WWE's third programming NXT.
After a tough fight with NXT during the initial days, Dynamite would soon go on to beat the show in ratings regularly due to a more extensive roster and major impact on storylines. After the introduction of AEW Rampage, Dynamite shifted to TNT's sister channel TBS in early 2022. In May 2023, AEW introduced another weekly program called AEW Collision, which was AEW's second show with a 120-minute slot. While Dynamite and Collision take place on two different nights and are shot separately, the two shows do not have a dedicated roster like RAW and SmackDown. This means AEW has not yet enacted some sort of brand extension or draft in their programming.
