BIO: The Miami Heat is a professional basketball team based in Miami, Florida, United States. The Heat were formed as part of the NBA's plan to expand the league in the late 1980s with four expansion franchises, which included the Heat along with Charlotte Hornets in 1988, and the Orlando Magic and Minnesota Timberwolves in 1989. The team is a member of the Southeast Division in the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The team owner is Micky Arison, who also owns cruise-ship giant Carnival Corporation. The mascot of the team is Burnie, an anthropomorphic fireball. They play their home games at the American Airlines Arena in Downtown Miami.
