Emma Mckeon

Emma McKeon is an Australian woman swimmer born on 24th May 1994. She hails from Wollongong city of New South Wales in Australia. Emma is a Freestyle specialist and represents Australia in 100m Freestyle and 200m Freestyle.

Background:

Emma McKeon was born to Ron McKeon and Susie McKeon. She belongs to a family of swimmers, where father and brother David McKeon were Olympians and her mother represented Australia at the 1982 Commonwealth Games.

Being from a family of swimmers, Emma was introduced to swimming at a very young age. She attended Illawarra Grammar School in her hometown. Emma joined the Wests Illawarra Swimming Club, where she received her first professional training. In 2014, she moved to St Peters Western Swimming Club.

After graduating from Illawarra Grammar School, Emma joined Griffith University in South East Queensland, where she obtained a degree in Public Health. She currently trains under Michael Bohl at the Griffith University and has been representing them at the Australian Swimming Championships since 2017.

Rise to Glory:

Emma McKeon received her first international break at the 2010 Junior Pan American Championships, where she won three Silver medals in 4x400m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle, and 50m Freestyle and a Bronze in 200m Freestyle. That year, she took home a Gold medal in 400m Medley, a Silver in 100m Butterfly, and two Bronze medals in 50m and 100m Freestyles.

In 2013, Emma won her first national title in 4x200m Freestyle, a Silver in 4x100m Freestyle, and a Bronze medal in 200m Freestyle at the Australian Swimming Championships. The following year, she clinched her first Individual national title in 200m Freestyle.

At the 2016 Australia Swimming Championships, Emma McKeon took home 5 medals, including three Gold medals in 200m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle, and 4x100m Medley, and two Bronze in 100m Freestyle and 4x200m Freestyle Relay. She has won a total of 18 national championships medals.

Emma McKeon holds Long Course national records in 100m Butterfly, 4x100m Freestyle, 4x200m Freestyle, 4x100m Freestyle Mixed, and 4x100m Medley, and Short Course records in 4x100m Freestyle, 4x100m Medley, and 4x50m Freestyle.

Major Achievements:

Emma McKeon made her senior international debut at the 2010 World Swimming Championships, where she was a part Australian women's team that won 4x100m Medley. In 2013, she took home three Silver medals in 4x100m Freestyle, 4x200m Freestyle, and 4x100m Medley at the World Aquatics Championships.

At the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Emma clinched four Gold medals in 200m Freestyle, 4x100m Freestyle, 4x200m Freestyle, and 4x100m Medley, and two Bronze in 100m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly. In 2016, she made her Olympics debut at the Rio Olympics and won four medals, including a Gold in 4x100m Freestyle, two Silver medals in 4x200m Freestyle, and 4x100m Medley, and a Bronze in 200m Freestyle.

Between 2015 and 2019, Emma had won four World Aquatics titles in 4x100m Freestyle (2015 and 2019), 4x200m Freestyle and 4x100m Mixed Medley (2019), six Silver medals in 200m Freestyle, 100m Butterfly, 4x100m Freestyle, 4x100m Mixed Medley (2017), 4x100m Medley and 4x100m Mixed Freestyle (2019), and three Bronze in 4x200m Freestyle, 4x100m Medley (2017) and 100m Butterfly (2019) at the World Aquatics Championships.

In 2018, Emma took home six medals at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, including four Gold in 100m Butterfly, 4x100m Freestyle, 4x200m Freestyle, 4x100m Medley, and two Bronze in 200m Freestyle and 200m Butterfly.

Emma McKeon will look to qualify for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics via Olympic Trials and shall be in contention to win a medal in 100m and 200m Freestyle.
