Magic Johnson wants the Los Angeles Lakers to rally together after a failed attempt to trade for New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis.

Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, Brandon Ingram and Rajon Rondo were all mentioned as part of the Lakers' bid to acquire All-Star forward Davis before Thursday's deadline.

Los Angeles ended up dealing Michael Beasley, Ivica Zubac and rookie Svi Mykhailiuk in a pair of moves to acquire Reggie Bullock and Mike Muscala.

Lakers president Johnson said trade rumours were simply "part of business" and he is going to work to keep the team focused on the end goal of making the playoffs.

"It's a part of business, it's a part of being a professional athlete," Johnson said.

"I'm going to hug them and tell them that we got to come together and our goal is still in reach, which is to make the playoffs.

"I love our team. I love the guys. It's a tough part of our business whether you're mentioned in trade talk, or you get traded. It's a tough part of professional sports, but they came together and played great against Boston [Celtics].

"My job is to make sure we stay together as a team and stay focused on the goal, which is to make the playoffs."

The Lakers are 28-27 and sitting 10th in the Western Conference heading into Sunday's game against the Philadelphia 76ers.
